Due to a personal family issue that is very close to my heart, this year's Circle of Love, the Saturday night charity at the New York Hustle Congress will called 'Hustle for Help'. This year's Circle is dedicated to raise people's awareness and help fight stigma associated with disorders of the brain, your bodies most important organ. These illness include: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Bipolar Disorder Borderline Personality Disorder, Dissociative Disorders, Dual Diagnosis and Integrated Treatment of Mental and Substance Abuse Disorder, Eating Disorders, Major Depression, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Panic Disorder, Traumatic Stress Disorder, Schizoaffective Disorder, Schizophrenia, Seasonal Affective Disorder, Suicide, Tourette's Syndrome. 1 in 6 adults and almost 1 in 10 children suffer from a diagnosable mental illness. Yet, for many, the stigma associated with the illness, can be as great a challenge as the disease itself. Many people in the dance community have or know a friend or loved one that is suffering in silence from one of these disorders. One of the best ways you can help someone with mental illness is by understanding what it is – and what it isn't. After all, myths about mental illnesses contribute to stigma, which often prevents those who are living with it from seeking help. Most importantly, mental illnesses are treatable through medication and psychosocial therapies – allowing those who suffer from them the opportunity to lead full and productive lives. Please join me as we support 'BringChange2Mind', an organization started by Glenn Close to help fight against stigma when her sister was diagnosed with Bi Polar Disorder. http://www.bringchange2mind.org/ and NAMI a terrific organization that does so many things to help those and their family members who struggle with these illnesses. Thank you! Lori and Monkey | |

Lori started teaching when she became hooked on the hustle and social dancing. She then branched off to all different styles of partner dance. She has won numerous dance championships in International Latin, Theater Arts, and Cabaret, and is a 2 time winner of the Zacharay's Dance Contest. She was a featured performer of such prestigious dance companies as American Ballroom Theater and Swing Dance America. She has performed at Lincoln Center, the Rainbow Room, the Copacabana, Latin Quarter, and other NYC night clubs. She has also made numerous TV and movie appearances.

A renewed love of Hustle inspired her to start a monthly NYC dance party, Millennium Hustle, featuring Hustle, Salsa, and West Coast Swing and now Ballroom dancing. Because of its popularity, the party is now held in different locations throughout NY on Friday and Saturday nights.
